Cat Food Guide: Kittens, Adults, and Seniors

Kittens (0–12 months)

Kittens require food rich in protein, fat, and calcium for healthy growth. Feed them 3–4 times a day with high-quality kitten kibble or wet food. In Kenya, brands like Reflex or Whiskas (Kitten formula) are available in most pet stores. You can also mix in some boiled boneless chicken or liver.

Adult Cats (1–7 years)

Adult cats need balanced meals with fewer calories but sufficient protein. Feed twice a day. Use adult dry or wet food from brands like Royal Canin, Reflex, or Mellow. Supplement occasionally with plain tuna (in water), boiled eggs, or rice with minced meat (no spices).

Senior Cats (7+ years)

Older cats require lower-fat diets and softer foods to support digestion and kidney function. Choose senior-specific cat food with omega-3s and joint support. Feed smaller portions twice a day. Wet food or softened dry kibble is preferred to ease chewing.

Puppies (0–12 months)

Puppies grow fast and need high-protein diets. Feed 3–4 times a day. Choose puppy formulas from Reflex, SmartHeart, or local vet-recommended brands. Home meals may include soft ugali mixed with minced meat, rice with boiled eggs, or boiled pumpkin and chicken.

Adult Dogs (1–7 years)

Adults need energy-balanced meals twice a day. Dry kibble mixed with small amounts of cooked vegetables or meat is ideal. Avoid feeding bones, raw meat, or spicy food. Occasional treats like carrots, plain yogurt, or dental sticks are encouraged.

Senior Dogs (7+ years)

Older dogs may have sensitive teeth and slower digestion. Offer senior dry food (softened with broth), fish, sweet potatoes, or boiled chicken. Feed 2 smaller meals daily and ensure clean water is always available.
